Thanks to all round house legend Graeme Park for his continued support of Dekata Project, featuring “At Least We Can Dance” as the first track on his latest show…

Happy New Year! So how was yours?

We had a very special 2009, thanks for all of your support. Before we look forward, let’s finish up 2009 in style. Here’s some interesting summaries of last year from various DJs and dance music types, including some highlights from me too, as featured on the DMC “What Was All That About?” feature:

http://www.dmcupdate.com/article.asp?ArticleID=921

And so onwards an upwards, here’s what you can expect from Dekata Project this year:
- In addition to the full live band and acoustic soul gigs, we are currently working all out on a new Live PA / electronic / DJ set using all the latest technology, mixes up soon
- The first half of the year will see the “At Least We Can Dance” remixes out on vinyl, another single / EP release, followed by the full album by the summer if all goes to plan. These are likely to be out on Doshiwa! Records, but we have had a surge of interest from other labels of late, so are keeping our options open
- Don’t forget we still have the results of our comic competition on the way, trust me they are incredible
- Expect the usual output of collaborations and remixes: of late we have worked with Phil from Radiohead, Roska, Nu:Tone plus other collabs / remixes in the pipeline with Jamie George, Grey Matter, Crusada, DogEatDogBiscuit, Emilia Martensson, our own Zed Bias, the list goes on…

All the best now for 2010!

Roska & Jamie George

So I’m assuming some of you were watching Never Mind The Buzzcoks on the BBC last night, as I was, and they did the line-up section, and lo and behold there was Jamie George! He was originally JTee from 3rd Edge, and actually got away on the ID parade feature without too much mickey taking from the panel, good skills!

The link is I recently did a remix for Roska and Jamie George, of their hit track “Wonderful Day”. It’s a UK Funky / Nu Jazz / Electro House / Wonky kind of vibe, if you wanna hear it see below, it’s also available on iTunes here

Wonderful Day (Dekata Project Remix) by dekataproject

Greetings.

Here’s a section of a live DJ mix I did for a friend’s house party in London recently. This was the soul section, which came nestled between a latin jazz and then full on soulful house / tech / electro set. There’s also a cheeky bit of 30s jazz thrown in for good measure.

Enjoy it and share it with all of your friends! Happy birthday Fiona!

cracksmall

Our friends in the north, The Crack magazine, have reviewed “At Least We Can Dance” in their October issue.

This is what they had to say:

“This is the loveliest chunk of soulful house that I’ve heard in a long while. Gloriously languid vocals from Yvette Riby-Williams and the kind of fruity rhythms that you’ll find with the likes of Basement Jaxx when they’re in chilled out, cruising mode. Lovely mixes too from Nu:Tone, Hint, Roska and Ike Synton.”

DEKATA PROJECT

Dekata: move / attitude (Japanese meaning)

Rising UK live soulful outfit Dekata Project deliver a fresh blend of neo-soul, future jazz and house beats with this full live band outing. Following the success of their first release, the Viral EP, the subsequent remixes of top track “At Least We Can Dance” have recently featured on BBC Radio 1 and as a Bubblin Under “one to watch” in iDJ mag, firmly putting Dekata Project on the map, with production credits from Zed Bias, and remixes from the likes of Nu:Tone, Roska, and Hint.

The live band, led by song writer and sax player Sam Sharp, features some of the top funk and soul performers from the London scene, including vocalists from the beatbox / acappella group The Boxettes, who featured on stage with Jarvis Cocker at Glastonbury earlier in the year.

Expect booming beats and b-lines, jazz tinged keys, itchy guitar chops, heavy horns, serious funk undertones and soaring hook lines. Close your eyes and it’s that live Moloko, Jamiroquai and Basement Jaxx vibe that transports you straight to the dance floor!

groove

Another review from taste maker and supporter of Dekata Project, Ben Lovett:

At Least We Can Dance (UK Doshiwa Records)

Loved the Project’s Viral EP last month; this follow-up is arguably even better. Dubstepper Zed Bias and sax player Sam Sharp offer deep, soulful, groovy house with more impeccable vocals from Yvette Riby-Williams and a gorgeous wandering b-line. Then there’s the excellent re-rubs. Nu:Tone whips up crisp, loopin’ and thoroughly beguiling drum & bass flavours; and rising star Roska serves up his sweet, inimitable blend of soul-house, breakbeat and grime. Brighton’s Hint provides an exclusive iTunes edit, adding delicate afro-liltin’ finesse and Ike Synton’s Beatport-only effort pivots on a delicious electro-fied deep house backing with more jump than kangas on springs…. 4/5
