MORE INFO
UK Live Soul heads Dekata project return with another slice of slick house – This single has been signed to the long running and always on point Exceptional Records. Building on their early success, which included an IDJ bubblin under feature, two metro singles of the week, and radio 1 airplay, the group features some of London’s top live soul musicians accompanied by beats and production from dance godfather Zed Bias.
Natalie Williams lends her velvet vocals to ‘Your Number’ penned by Dekata Project founding father Sam Sharp and all about going out and about on the hunt for potential partners – It’s a tasty slice of percussive 80s synth pie, which builds into an electronic dance floor groove with a pulsing bassline, and a catchy hook (Think Moloko combined with futuristic Japanese riff) It just works!
On the remix front, be prepared for an out and out UK funky banger from Maddslinky, one of Zed Bias’s many pseudonyms, under which he has recently signed with top UK label and Dekata Project fan Tru Thoughts. The track is another example of the versatility of one of the pioneers of this sound: the percussive beats are a cocktail of broken up funky house grooves, coupled with a mix of 80s synths with 90s rave leanings, relentless bass and vocal chop-ups to get the dance floor bouncing. Expect this one to take off in all the usual places.
“Shake It Up” is a piece of futuristic soulful pop, this time with vocals from rising star Neo Joshua, who along with fellow Dekata Project regular Yvette Riby-Williams are enjoying great success with live acapella vocal / beatbox group the Boxettes. Along with the usual elements you would expect from DP, itchy funk guitar, percussion and heavy beats, there’s a meandering bass line that gives the song drive – There’s a definite nod to Jamiroquai and Prince in its influences.

ONE MORE DAY TO GO PEOPLE!
Fresh vinyl will be ripe for you as of tomorrow.
In the mean time, here’s the last of our runners up in the fabulous comic competition.
Watch out for more black and white / colour switching, fantasy themes and amazing detail. From Harvey James: “Nikki’s drawings are always rad, and this is no exception. I like the lion girl’s tail in the third panel! Although, I have to deduct points since this is basically the plot to the movie Grease”

Day 4 sees a lovely mix of black and white with colour panels, great story and even a bit of magical violence thrown in for good measure. In the words of judge Harvey James, “This one is crazy well-drawn!”, nuff said really.

Here’s the teaser…
Day 2 of our competition to celebrate the vinyl release of “At Least We Can Dance” (featuring remixes from Nu:Tone and Roska, out Feb 8th!)
This entry gets the prize for sheer effort, as it’s 9 full pages long! It is also a truly beautiful and funny piece of work.
Comment from judge Harvey James:
“I’m a big fan of the colouring, loose line work and bold layouts of this one, as well as the realisation of the environment they inhabit. Also, I like that you can pretty much always see the one girl’s pants.”
