Another review from taste maker and supporter of Dekata Project, Ben Lovett:

At Least We Can Dance (UK Doshiwa Records)

Loved the Project’s Viral EP last month; this follow-up is arguably even better. Dubstepper Zed Bias and sax player Sam Sharp offer deep, soulful, groovy house with more impeccable vocals from Yvette Riby-Williams and a gorgeous wandering b-line. Then there’s the excellent re-rubs. Nu:Tone whips up crisp, loopin’ and thoroughly beguiling drum & bass flavours; and rising star Roska serves up his sweet, inimitable blend of soul-house, breakbeat and grime. Brighton’s Hint provides an exclusive iTunes edit, adding delicate afro-liltin’ finesse and Ike Synton’s Beatport-only effort pivots on a delicious electro-fied deep house backing with more jump than kangas on springs…. 4/5

As the more astute of you will remember, I had a photo shoot a while ago to promote the debut Dekata Project Viral EP. One of the pictures featured me being thrown across the floor by the power of the music (as in he-man “by the power of greyskull!”), with various music / studio gear in the background, all painted white. Then the other day I spotted the cover for Jay-Z’s new album, The Blueprint 3, and lo and behold, it seems very similar! Loads of white music gear, with a pink/red vibe too. Make your mind up peoples!

A pleasant review of our remix package

Sharp & Bias bring together an eclectic remix roster to thoroughly disprove that remixing soul should be like for like and shouldn’t creep too far outside its remit.”

In case you missed it (like I did), as well as the bubblin under feature, we also made the Drum and Bass review section in September’s iDJ, for the Nu:Tone remix of “At Least We Can Dance”.

“Glorious bass-led melodic on this re-lick of hotly tipped UK live soul crew Dekata Project, with sprightly breaks rattling away underneath. Well worth checking. 7/10.” Ewen Cook

Mornin.

Photographer and friend of Dekata Project, Sam Peach, has been working on an exciting new project entitled “The Freelancers”. The project features pictures of creative people who work for themselves, and includes a picture of myself (see below), and also a great picture of Lucy Harvey, who is also part of the Dekata Project team with her style advice. The picture is of me sitting in the live room of my studio, complete with Argos duvets on the walls, and a guest appearance from my cat, Boo.

You can see all of the pictures on Sam’s website, go to projects->the freelancers: http://www.sampeach.com

A heavy remix of “At Least We Can Dance” by newcomer and man of mystery Ike Synton. Think pumping Chicago House, synths, soulful electro-bassline, and fresh production, described by Inhale’s review as “an addictive slice of wonderful electronica and percussion”.

Out Sep 14th on Doshiwa Records, this track will be an exclusive on beatport.
