To start things off, a brand new track from myself, with Zed Bias on the production credits as always, and featuring the lovely KayJay on vocals, ‘Same Old Story’ is a slow builder with a big drop to get you dancing round your handbags/manbags. Next on to the badass bassline wondery of ‘Love Someone’ and the lovely percussive groover of ‘Whatzup We’, hinting towards a tech house vibe. Special mention must then go to ‘Why Don’t You’ from Gramophonedzie, which put a massive smile on my face and made me dance round my studio like a prohibition-crazed alcoholic. Onwards and upwards, with a brief flirtation with minimal, via Marc Houle’s excellent ‘Dirty Dirty’, then straight into a brand new release from Hint, the first of two offerings from Tru Thoughts to be found here. This remix of ‘One Woman Army’ has a killer bass hook, fresh vocals and uk funky leanings, all of which make this track essential for the summer dance floor. You know me though, can’t escape the jazz/soul vibe for long, my rescue tunnel comes via the smooth beats of a remixed Part Time Heroes Track, ‘Realise’, a warm glow of a track out on Dom Servini’s on Wah Wah 45s. More funky beats come with ‘Message From The City’, with its relentless high energy, followed by the incredible production on Jean Elan’s ‘Killer’, taking us very electronic and pumping all of a sudden, loving the distorted vocal line too. The mix ends with ’27 Devils’ from Flevans, the second Tru Thoughts offering here, a delightful mix of broken beats, soul cine-guitar work, poppy piano and squelchy bass. Turn. It. Up.
