A whole load of stuff in my inbox when I got back from Glastonbury, the EP is growing and growing…

“This is a really cool package which I really like, Change My Way just about takes it for me. Will be playing.”
Robert Luis (Tru Thoughts)

”This sounds like Erykah Badu mixed with Jamiroquai. Change My Way is an addictive slice of summery dance which I’m right behind. At Least We Can Dance is my second favourite cut on the EP.”
Graham Clark (Maximum)

“I like the vibe of this project, perfect for sunny days. Also nice cover of Secret Smile ;-) .”
Nico De Ceglia

“Change My Way – lovely tune! lush, soulful grove, def my bag, love the keys, and interesting vocalist, like her style, its fairly unique and very captivating. Secret Smile – nice tune, mellow, love the song though! At least We Can Dance – love it love it! This EP keeps getting better!”
Tony Montana

“Far much better then half of da so called soulful stuff out there :-)
Simbad Stanislas

THIS JUST IN!!!

Yvette and Neo, lead vocalists from Dekata Project, perform live with Jarvis Cocker at Glastonbury 2009 in front of 15,000 people, headlining the John Peel Stage on the Saturday night!

Yvette and Neo, who have been doing the live gigs for Dekata Project for a couple of years now, and both feature on the debut Viral EP, were performing with the beatboxer shlomo at Glastonbury when they were spotted by Jarvis and asked to join him on stage! They performed vocals for him on his song “You’re In My Eyes”, which was the climax of the whole evening. Don’t forget you can see both Yvette and Neo at our launch party on Wed 22nd July at Favela Chic near Old St in London.

Here’s the result: scroll along to around 23m30s…

Hi everyone, people often ask me how they can book the jazz musicians involved with Dekata Project for a private function. Therefore here’s a quick reminder of my agency City Jazz, the best place to book your London jazz band, swing band, or London jazz singer:

Greetings.

Another quick bit of exciting news for the Dekata Project family, our incredible percussionist Genevieve Wilkins has recently been working with the one and only Lionel Richie whilst he’s been over here in the UK. Biggest congrats go out to her, here are a couple of links:

Well well well, it’s exam time for part of our family. Many of you will know lead vocalist Yvette, and keyboardist George from our live gigs over the last couple of years, and also that they are coming towards the end of their undergrad jazz studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. As part of the ritual, they both have their final recitals in the next couple of days, and would really appreciate your support. It’s the culmination of 4 years hard work at this top conservatoire, and should not be missed. I would get there at least 20 mins beforehand as it’s a concert hall vibe.

Here are the details:

Yvette Riby-Williams Final Recital
Tue 9th June, 8pm, GSMD Music Hall
Featuring
Jamie Mcredy (Guitar), Daoud Merchant (Drums), Belle Ehressman (Bass), George Fogel (Piano)

George Moore Final Recital
Wed 10th June, 6pm, GSMD Music Hall
Featuring 12 piece ensemble of Matt Featherstone, Tommy Andrews, Tom Stone, George Crowley, Will Rixon, Dan Beer, Kevin O’Hara, Robbie Harvey, Ross Brennan, Tom Farmer, Daoud Merchant

Directions: The entrance is around the corner from the main entrance to the barbican hall on silk st, nearest tubes Moorgate / Barbican. The Music Hall can be found adjoining the main foyer on entering. More here:

See you there!

I’ve compiled my latest top 10 club killers, guaranteed brand new vibes from the last month or so, including some exclusive promos not out yet. There’s the usual mix of stuff in there from soulful house to broken beats, from uk funky to tech house and minimal. Don’t miss an exclusive unreleased track from our upcoming album to kick things off…

http://www.dekataproject.com/mixes/DekataMixFreshClub01.mp3

Tracklisting

1. Dekata Project, ‘Same Old Story’ (Doshiwa)
2. Jordan Fields, ‘Love Someone – Reprogrammed Version’ (Headphoniq)
3. Veztax, ‘Whatzup We – Valentino Kanzyani Remix’ (Vezotonik)
4. Gramophonedzie, ‘Why Don’t You’ (Guesthouse Music)
5. Marc Houle, ‘Dirty Dirty’ (Minus)
6. Hint, ‘One Woman Army – Hint Remix’ (Tru Thoughts)
7. Part Time Heroes, ‘Realise – Landslide Remix’ (Wah Wah 45s)
8. Groove on Commission, ‘Message From The City’ (Irma)
9. Jean Elan, ‘Killer – Jean Elan Remix’ (Shake Me Please!)
10. Flevans, ’27 Devils’ (Tru Thoughts)

To start things off, a brand new track from myself, with Zed Bias on the production credits as always, and featuring the lovely KayJay on vocals, ‘Same Old Story’ is a slow builder with a big drop to get you dancing round your handbags/manbags. Next on to the badass bassline wondery of ‘Love Someone’ and the lovely percussive groover of ‘Whatzup We’, hinting towards a tech house vibe. Special mention must then go to ‘Why Don’t You’ from Gramophonedzie, which put a massive smile on my face and made me dance round my studio like a prohibition-crazed alcoholic. Onwards and upwards, with a brief flirtation with minimal, via Marc Houle’s excellent ‘Dirty Dirty’, then straight into a brand new release from Hint, the first of two offerings from Tru Thoughts to be found here. This remix of ‘One Woman Army’ has a killer bass hook, fresh vocals and uk funky leanings, all of which make this track essential for the summer dance floor. You know me though, can’t escape the jazz/soul vibe for long, my rescue tunnel comes via the smooth beats of a remixed Part Time Heroes Track, ‘Realise’, a warm glow of a track out on Dom Servini’s on Wah Wah 45s. More funky beats come with ‘Message From The City’, with its relentless high energy, followed by the incredible production on Jean Elan’s ‘Killer’, taking us very electronic and pumping all of a sudden, loving the distorted vocal line too. The mix ends with ’27 Devils’ from Flevans, the second Tru Thoughts offering here, a delightful mix of broken beats, soul cine-guitar work, poppy piano and squelchy bass. Turn. It. Up.
